Audi has led the luxury performance sedan category for several years now by developing some of the most innovative automotive technology in the industry. The German automaker's prowess in this area is in full play in the new 2016 Audi S7, reports CNET auto critic Antuan Goodwin. Click "play" in the video clip below to watch his full report.

The S7's engine and quick-shifting transmission work together to launch the low-slung sport sedan to 60 miles per hour from a static start in just 4.5 seconds. From there, the S7 rockets to an electronically limited top speed of 155 miles per hour. The S7 is powered by a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter engine turning its crank to the tune of 450 horsepower and 406 pound-feet of torque. The engine is a V-8 configuration...most of the time.

CNET's Goodwin points out that when full power isn't needed, a variable displacement system can shut down half of its cylinders, operating on just four cylinders while cruising and helping the S7 achieve its optimal highway estimate of 27 miles per gallon. City and combined estimates are stated at 17 mpg and 21 mpg, respectively.
