2020 Audi Q5 vs. 2020 Audi Q8
Serving Rockville, MD
Audi has two appealing choices for buyers looking for a luxury-class SUV. The two-row, five-seat Q5 comes in three trim levels, each of which is packed with comforts and high-tech goodies. The larger, three-row Q8 was all-new for 2019 and carried over to this year with little changes. The 2020 Q8 boasts a comfortable ride, extremely passenger-friendly seating, and high-quality interior materials.
It comes down to how much space one needs. As an everyday commuter, the 2020 Audi Q5 won't disappoint, and it promises adequate horsepower. The larger 2020 Audi Q8 is best suited to families who need to bring a lot of cargo with them on cross-country or cross-town road trips.
Performance
The 2020 Audi Q5 is equipped with a turbocharged 2.0L four-cylinder engine that produces a total of 248 horsepower. The engine is mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, and all-wheel drive is standard on all three trims. The big selling points are acceleration and braking. The Q8 goes from 0-60 mph in just over six seconds, and it brakes from this speed to a full stop in only 114 feet. Steering is exact, and the handling is exceptional around tight turns. The 2020 Audi Q8 has a turbocharged 3.0L V6 rated at 335 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque. It also comes with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system that enhances the start-stop functionality. The Q8's engine is paired to an eight-speed automatic transmission, and like the smaller Q5, it comes standard with all-wheel drive, but this drive system includes a rear-biased 60/40 torque split.
Appearance
The 2020 Audi Q5 has a high roofline that's fitted with roof rails and crossover bars. It's ground clearance is high, but the step-in height is low, so entering the vehicle is a breeze. The base trim comes with 18-inch wheels, a rear spoiler, xenon headlights, and LED taillights. The LED daytime running lights are also standard. The uplevel trims get larger wheels, LED headlights, front and rear parking sensors, and folding and auto-dimming side mirrors. The 2020 Audi Q8 base trim rides on 20-inch wheels and comes with LED headlights, a hands-free liftgate, and a panoramic sunroof. Roof rails, however, are not standard. The higher trims add on 21- or 22-inch wheels, and there's an available towing package.
Features
These are luxury-class vehicles, and the base trims are certainly not lacking in the categories of materials quality and standard convenience features. The 2020 Audi Q5 base trim has leather upholstery, cruise control, heated and power-adjustable front seats, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, a reclining rear seat, Bluetooth, and smartphone app integration. If the buyer chooses one of the uplevel trims, the goodies include driver seat memory functions, a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster display, and an upgraded stereo system. The 2020 Audi Q8 base trim boasts the Virtual Cockpit digital gauge cluster display, leather seating, reclining rear seats, and the new MMI system with its dual-screen screens. The range-topping Prestige trim comes with a head-up display, touch-sensitive controls, and all of the contents of the Driver Assist package. This package includes adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, and traffic sign recognition.
